My Experience with Different Agencies
Over the years, I’ve worked with multiple organizations, and I’m sharing what really helped me grow as an agent. My time with these agencies
My Experience Working with Aflac
What I liked
• Strong supplemental insurance products that fill real gaps in coverage
• Aflac is a well known brand which helps when introducing yourself to businesses
• Good online training, guides, and tools to learn the products
• Solid support resources from the company
Things I learned quickly
• The local office matters a lot. A supportive office can make a big difference in how you learn the business
• When considering Aflac, you should also interview the office leadership, not just the company
• Success requires a boots on the ground approach. You will spend a lot of time visiting businesses and introducing yourself
Real experience I gained
• Knocking on doors and speaking with business owners
• Visiting many restaurants and small businesses
• Learning how employee benefit enrollments work
• Sitting down with employees and explaining coverage options
Important lessons
• You eventually have to find your own approach to sales
• Some agents focus heavily on closing, but it is important to make sure the coverage actually fits the person
• Insurance can be a numbers business, but trust and long term relationships matter
Things new agents should understand
• Take time to fully understand the commission structure
• This career requires an entrepreneurial mindset
• You are essentially building your own business and creating your own opportunities
How it still helps me today
• It taught me how to explain insurance in simple terms
• It gave me confidence starting conversations with people I don’t know
• Those same skills help me today when guiding clients through Medicare options
Other Agency Patterns
Beyond the big names, working with various independent agencies revealed a consistent pattern: success isn't just about leads, but about support systems. I noticed that without clear scripts and compliance guardrails, even the most talented agents burn out. This realization is exactly why I built this hub—to provide the structure I wish I had starting out.
My time at World Financial Group opened my eyes to the world of financial literacy. It emphasized the value of a holistic approach to a client's financial health, rather than looking at a single policy in isolation. Learning to explain complex concepts in simple terms was a skill I sharpened significantly during this period, and it remains a cornerstone of my teaching.
